Comment : This human head superbly exemplifies the techniques used in the 18th century. Blood vessels were injected with coloured wax : blue for the veins, red for the arteries. They appeared as swollen and enabled students to see the vascular system clearly. The skull was drilled to allow the brain to be removed. Muscles and nerves were individualised.
